While traveling yesterday, I read a Wall Street Journal article focused on the increasing number of bloggers--and the associated increase in the number of people who make their living from blogging. As I recall, the article indicated that 100,000 unique visitors per month are required for a blog to "sustain" its author. Wow! If I can sign up 99, 994 more followers, I can do this full time!!!
As noted in yesterday's post, two days after the marathon is generally the peak of my soreness. True to this expectation, my quadriceps screamed as I stepped out of bed this morning. I completed a walk of 3.6 miles (I use a Garmin 405 gps watch as my information source) before starting my day of meetings. Again, my approach is to take "long strides" during my recovery walks. I don't exaggerate my arm pumps, I just try to stride to the point of feeling a stretch in my legs as I walk.
In addition to the walk, I also added some light stretching of my back and legs this morning.
The good news is while I am still sore, I feel better than I did first thing this morning. There was no jogging this morning, since I am more concerned with injuring myself by trying to overdo things than I am with any perceived training benefit. I just ran 26.2 miles on Monday, so my training will be fine with some rest as my body rebuilds and recovers.
I expect to have one more walk while out in California, which should happen tomorrow morning before I catch a flight back home to Birmingham.
