Below are results and statistics from my run in the the 2007 New York City Marathon.
As you review the information, here are a few notes:
1. For those not skilled in metric conversion 5 km equals 3.1 miles...my first 5 km had to be among the slowest I have ever run, which is attributed to running in an incredible mass of people.
2. If you examine the course map, the much of the first 5 km is spent crossing the Verrazano Narrows Bridge...which consists of a long uphill climb followed by an equal descent in to Brooklyn.
3. As I was crossing the Queensborough Bridge my time made it clear a 4 hour marathon effort was not going to happen. So, I relaxed and focused more on enjoying the entire experience.
4. I completed the second half of the marathon in less time than I needed to finish the first 13.1 miles. This is notable for a couple of reasons (1) while running the second half, I had already run 13.1 miles and (2) rarely (OK, almost never) do I run faster after a 13 mile warm up experience.
